Coast to Coast

Leaving the mountains of Yosemite, we were immediately plunged into steep declines through huge green hillsides. It looked more like Ireland or Scotland than anything you'd see in the US. We were worried about the brakes getting too hot as we went down, down, down through switchbacks over thousands of feet in altitude, so when we saw a wide turnout we stopped to give the brakes a chance to cool. Lily kept us entertained with her ukulele while Lotus bounced his tennis ball off the rocks.

The brakes cooled and we pressed on toward the Pacific. We camped for the night at a well maintained little campground near Manteca and left for the coast early the next day.
Passing through San Fransisco was exciting. We crossed the Bay Bridge,
and were in the heart of the city in no time.
Being immersed in vast natural landscapes for the past two weeks made the hustle bustle of the city quite a shock. The Warrior (and Sky) bravely navigated the business district and tourist land, cable cars, trolleys, Fisherman's Wharf and countless other attractions.
Then, over the Golden Gate Bridge
and off toward the coast.
On the way west, we stopped in a beautiful little village, Bodega. This is where Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed. We enjoyed a locally caught and grown lunch and the Hitchcock nostalgia while there.
Remember the church scene?

And then.... a few miles more... and we made it! We met the Pacific Ocean at Bodega Bay, and 3 out of 4 in our family touched its waters for the first time.

Tomorrow we head north along the coast on Scenic Highway 1. We plan to take  our time and enjoy spontaneous stops on our way to the Redwood Forest.
Big love from West to East,
Sarah
